Police Emphasis on 395

Posted: Updated:

KENNEWICK, Wash. -- Police are cracking down on 395. It's all part of a statewide program called X-52, which is aimed at keeping extra patrols on duty every week of the year.

From 3 until 7 Friday night, deputies, officers, and troopers were patrolling from the Blue Bridge all the way to I-82 in Kennewick. Their mission, find the speeders and people without a front license plate.

Deputies say they focused on the area because of the high traffic and because people have a tendency to speed there. On the way to 82, the speed limit does go up from 35 to 50, but deputies say, people tend to get going too fast when they are getting on the Interstate and don't slow down quickly enough when they are getting off it.

Law enforcement hopes that the statewide emphasis, X-52, will reduce traffic fatalities and serious injuries. They say they hope people see them and think, 'I better slow down'.
