YAKIMA, Wash - Gerald Hill scored all 17 of his points in the second half to lead Charles Wright to a 53-48 victory over fourth-ranked River View for the Class 1A boys state championship
Saturday.

Hill, the tournament's most valuable player, scored 17 of Charles Wright's 24 second-half points. He took over a 38-all game entering the fourth quarter, scoring his team's first 11 points and giving them a lead they would never relinquish.

"I just knew I had to do it," Hill said. "My teammates had worked too hard for us not to win this thing."

It was the first state title for Charles Wright (22-6), and the best finish for the Panthers (23-4).

Patrick Philley also scored 17 points, including four 3-pointers, for the Tarriers, and Jorden Hand added 11. Hill and Hand each pulled down six rebounds for CW.

Kyle Gier scored 19 points for RV, including three 3-pointers.  He also grabbed eight rebounds.

River View trailed twice by 10 points, the last time 34-24 with 6:48 left in the third quarter. But the Panthers rallied back, sparked by 3-pointers from Levi Davis, Gier and Zach Reynolds, to
knot the score heading into the final period.

CW shot 46 percent (16 of 35) for the game, while the Panthers
made 40 percent (19 of 48).
