"Downtown" Money Could Be Used for Crosswalks

Posted: Updated:

YAKIMA, Wash. -- Yakima officials are planning to build a crosswalk at the corner of N. 16th and Hathaway Avenues and they might borrow money from the Downtown Yakima Future Initiative to make it happen.

The plan would reallocate $350,000 of surplus from Phases 1 and 2 of the initiative.

A sub-committee made up of city council members already approved the proposal, but Mayor Dave Edler says the money should fund downtown projects.

"I personally feel very strongly that dollars for the core area of our downtown has got to be one of our top priorities", says Edler.

The proposal will be discussed at Tuesday night's council meeting and could be put to a vote following the discussion.
