SELAH, Wash - Depending on what Yakima Valley city you live in, you could be missing out on a service you already pay for. In a few cities, the cost for recycling curbside pick up is already included in the garbage pick up fee. The city of Selah is one of them.
People aren't required by law to do it, but places like the Manhattan Espresso Stand are already paying for it. They don't recycle right now, but have changed their mind after KNDO told them about the fee.
Barry's Tack and Feed store in Selah doesn't recycle either. They were glad I let them know about the pick up service.
"We definitely believe in recycling, we will definitely recycle," says Glenda Barry, one of the owners of the store.
In Yakima, the city only offers garbage pick up, not recycling. If people want their newspapers, bottles and cans to be taken away they have to sign up through a private company.
Yakima Waste Systems handles the routes in the city. They say there are thousands of people who use their service of $3.46 a month.
