PASCO, Wash. -- The Pasco Fire Department will soon lose a man with almost half a century's experience fighting fires. Chief Greg Garcia says he will miss the company of his fellow firefighters, but he is excited at the chance to spend more time with his grandkids.
Garcia says he is proud of the development of Pasco Fire, with new stations and better equipment, making the department able to serve the community better. He says without firefighting, life probably would have been pretty boring.
He says, "Firefighting is very exciting. It's a job that you don't take lightly. You risk your life but you go in knowing you're doing that. That's what you get paid for."
Garcia says his last day will be July 4th. The city council and city manager are beginning the process of hiring his replacement.
