WASHINGTON (AP) - One of Barack Obama's advisers says the remarks she made about Hillary Rodham Clinton were "inexcusable."
Samantha Power resigned from her post as a foreign policy adviser in the Obama campaign today after apologizing for calling Clinton a "monster."
Power was quoted in a Scottish newspaper today, even though she tried to keep it from appearing in print by saying that it was "off the record."
The remark was then picked up by U.S. media.
Power says her comments are a departure from her "oft-stated admiration" for Clinton, as well as from the "spirit, tenor and purpose of the Obama campaign."
Shortly before Power stepped down, the Clinton campaign held a conference call with several of Clinton's congressional supporters calling for Power to be fired.
Clinton's spokesman noted that Clinton aides have been removed in the past for comments they made about Obama.
