Keeping a Taco Stand Open

Posted: Updated:

YAKIMA, Wash - There are close to 50 mobile taco carts in Yakima County.  This week, one was reported to the Yakima County Health District after a customer found a rat tail in a taco.  That cart has since been shutdown for health violations.  They were found to have been storing food in a house.

According to staff at the health district, the carts have the same rules as most restaurants, only with a few extra regulations.  Food can only be used reheated at the cart, not cooked or stored.  A separate commercial building is required for the cooking and storage.

The health district will perform two random inspections for each mobile cart a year.  Staff say they have seen violations decrease through the years.
