YAKIMA, Wash. -- A 59-year-old woman was killed last night when crossing Nob Hill Boulevard. Around 7:30 29-year-old Rene Reyes was driving his Jeep Liberty down Nob Hill Boulevard and hit 59-year-old Diana Weise who was carrying groceries across the busy street.
Police say Reyes was going the speed limit and alcohol was not involved.
The accident happened near Pleasant Avenue. Businesses at the busy intersection say there are a number of factors that make this intersection so dangerous to cross.
The manager of the Pizza Express says, "The street needs to be lit up a little more. Its dark out here. Especially this corner here. This whole section is dark."
Other area businesses and residents we spoke to say between the lack of lighting, heavy traffic, and narrow sidewalks it can be extremely dangerous crossing the street at this corner. Many of them say they would like to see a stoplight or a crosswalk installed at the intersection.
Because it is Sunday, no one from the city was available to discuss the complaints.
