Injured Police Officer Out of Intensive Care

Posted: Updated:

YAKIMA, Wash. -- Darryl Henning was removed from Yakima Regional's intensive care unit over the weekend and is listed in satisfactory condition.

Henning was injured Wednesday when he crashed his police motorcycle into the side of a van that pulled out in front of him on the corner of 24th and Summitview Avenues. He suffered a broken leg, pelvis, and two broken wrists.

Neighbors that live in the area say a traffic light should be installed at the intersection because they see accidents there on a regular basis. Sgt. Gary Jones, the department's traffic division supervisor, was in an accident at the same spot just a few years ago.

"You start looking at all the same sights you saw just three or four years ago and it's a bit unnerving", said Jones. "I wish the best for the officer and I want him to have a speedy recovery".
