YAKIMA, Wash. -- Dan Newhouse, a representative of Sunnyside and the state's 15th Legislative District, is praising the passage of Bill 2712.
"Protecting families and empowering local communities to address gang related crimes is a priority for me this session", says Newhouse. "Passing this bill is a big win".
The bill passed with a lopsided 46 to 3 vote on Friday. It will give communities the ability to designate gang-free zones and make it possible to creat a statewide gang database.
Bill 2712 will also increase penalties for gang members who recruit juveniles.
