SEATTLE, Wash - The Seattle Mariners have missed going to the playoffs for six straight seasons, but the franchise made a $17.8 million profit in 2007.
The Mariners' annual financial report was released today by the team to the Public Facilities District that oversees Safeco Field operations.
It shows the club made nearly $18 million while spending $113.2 million in payroll.
Team officials attributed the healthy profit in part to an increase of nearly 200,000 in attendance. Safeco Field drew 2.67 million fans in 2007, an average of 32,992 per game.
In 2006, the Mariners made a $23.3 million profit. In 2005, the team reported a profit of $8.3 million.
