Toppenish Man Involved in 2006 Fatal Car Wreck Sentenced

Yakima, Wash - A judge heard the pleas of an emotional mother before her child's father is sent to prison.  The sentencing Tuesday stems from a fatal car accident back in 2006.

Dick Douglas of Toppenish was sentenced to 31 months in prison.  In December of 2006 he was driving on Track Road in Wapato when he hit a power pole.  A passenger in the car, 37-year-old William Anderson Junior of Wapato was ejected and pronounced dead on the scene.

Washington State Patrol Troopers say alcohol and poor weather conditions were to blame for the accident.

The mother of Douglas' child was emotional before the judge today, explaining how their son is going to feel.

"Today he has a very broken heart because he knows his father is going away," she said.

A friend of the family says Anderson and Douglas were brothers-in-law.  And the sentencing today is just another blow the family has to take.
