SELAH, Wash - Selah's Police Chief has resigned. It wasn't known for sure the past few days if the Chief was resigning, there had been rumors going around.
Selah's Mayor Bob Jones tells KNDO he received former Chief Ricardo Guiterrez's resignation papers Tuesday evening. Mayor Jones says Guiterrez is pursuing other career opportunities and the resignation is under good terms.
Guiterrez has served on the Selah Police Department for 18 years and had been the Chief for five.
"The city wants to move on and if he [Gueterrez] doesn't want to be a part of that, then there is no way I can encourage him to be a part of that. We've come to an amiable agreement," said Mayor Jones.
Lieutenant Stacy Dwarshius will act as Selah's Police Chief for now. Mayor Jones says the city will be looking to appoint someone permanently to the position by September.
He also applauds Guiterrez for the great work he did for the department.
