Brian Perkins to drive U-50 Unlimited Hydroplane for Northwest race sites

Sometimes information comes in interesting ways.  Kirk Pagel reports that Michael Prophet, Editor of the Unlimited NewsJournal, has confirmed that Brian Perkins will drive Greg O'Farrell's newly acquired U-50 hull at the Northwest race sites and possibly at San Diego.

Kirk says the boats color scheme provides an indicator of who the sponsor will be.

The U-50 is Fred Leland's old hull known as "Lucky".  The boat is fresh out of the paint shop and is going back together nicely.

Brian raced last year with the U-21 Freedom Racing team, owned by Kevin Aylesworth and Jeffrey Johnson in a brand new Unlimited Hydroplane.  The team ran the West Coast swing in 2007, but put the boat and the team up for sale, opting to expand the All-Access Rental Business instead of continuing in the sport.

That left Brian without a ride in the Unlimited ranks for the upcoming season until now.  For 2008, Brian had planned on a return to the Unlimited Lights ranks in the UL-40, owned by Chuck Dow of Auburn WA and Thunder Valley Racing.  Brian won the race at Issaquah in 2006 in this ride and while driving a turbine last year he subbed a couple times in the UL-40 winning two heats.

If Brian does also race the UL-40 during the season, that will put him head-to-head with sister Kayleigh Perkins, who won the Unlimited Lights championship as a rookie last year in the UL-72 Miss Boat Electric.

O'Farrell will campaign two boats this season.  David Williams returns as the driver of the U-48.
