TEMPE, Ariz - Raul Ibanez went 3-for-4, with a double, and Brad Wilkerson hit his first home run of the Cactus League season today, but the Seattle Mariners lost 8-2 to the Los Angeles Angels at Tempe, Ariz.
A sellout crowd of 8,832 turned out to see the two teams that are supposed to be the top contenders in the American League West this season.
The Mariners saw their spring record fall to 9-14-2, while the Angels improved to 17-7-2. Right-hander Cha Seung Baek made his second start of the spring for the Mariners and was charged with four runs on seven hits in three innings. His suffered his first spring loss in three decisions. Baek is trying to make the Mariners' roster as a reliever this spring.
The Mariners will start left-hander Jarrod Washburn against the Chicago White Sox tomorrow afternoon at 1:05 at Peoria, Ariz. Washburn has a 1-1 record with a 3.52 ERA this spring.
