More Traffic Patrols In Richland

Posted: Updated:

RICHLAND, Wash.-- The corner of George Washington Way and Columbia Point Drive, is just one of the areas where Richland police will be having extra patrols.

Starting Tuesday, March 25th., this traffic emphasis will be going from Comstock down to Columbia Point Drive. We talked to Richland police, and they say since the beginning of the year they've seen 16 accidents around this area.

This is one of the main reasons they're adding patrols. Police say this high number of collisions is mainly due to drivers not respecting the rules of the road.

"One of the biggest things is speed and one of the next is fail to yield and following too close, failing to yield while making lane changes and not using your turn signals things that are just contributing to all the things that happen there," said Richland police Captain Mike Cobb.

Police say their patrols will be easy to spot. So they're advising drivers to slow down and be safe.

This traffic emphasis will be starting tomorrow and will be effective for the next 30 days. Police are hoping their presence will make an impact and reduce the number of accidents.
