Coroner's Inquest Could Determine if Criminal Charges are Filed

Posted: Updated:

KENNEWICK, Wash.--On Thursday, a date was announced for a Coroner's Inquest to determine if criminal charges will be filed in the shooting death of 27-year-old Michael Salazar.

As of now no charges have been filed against 25-year-old Jon Gannon.

Benton County Prosecutor, Andy Miller, said an Inquest will allow the public to determine if Salazar's death was a justified homicide or not.

"These are very difficult decisions when you get into self defense issues and I think there is something about... is it is better to have one person make that decision, myself, from reading a bunch of police reports and witness statements or should that decision have the input from people from the community to determine what's acceptable and what's not acceptable," asks Miller."

The Inquest will be held on Thursday, April 17th and Friday, April 18th.
