Steve David, driver of the U-6 Oh Boy! Oberto/Miss Madison is known by the media that cover the sport as one of the nice guys. Funny, articulate and also a great interview. He also known to be a contributor to the message board at Hydropage.
Recently, Steve spoke out about what he sees as the needs for the future of Unlimited Hydroplane racing. You can read the full text of Steve's comments on the Hydropage Web Forum. Here's a snippet of what he had to say:
The problems the sport faces have nothing to do with competition. Our problems are a lack of singular leadership to increase race sites and third party sponsorships. The racing is great, deeper than it's ever been.
We need a strong leader, who knows how to sell and who to sell to. One that is out on the street selling on a consistent basis. That can't be a well meaning volunteer. Today Indy Car is announcing a series sponsor obtained by a company that does nothing but obtain and manage sponsorships. One could say the problems open wheel racing are facing are not that much different than what we face.
EDITOR'S NOTE: Indianapolis Star is reporting that "the IRL has a signed a letter of intent from DirecTV to become the IndyCar Series' presenting sponsor" Read more >>
Steve wraps up his comments with the following disclaimer:
Then again, these are my opinions, and opinions are not facts. They are debatable and rarely if ever lead to progress. They do lead to debate, rancor, acrimony and hurt feelings.
