West Valley bin fire raises more questions

Posted: Updated:

Yakima, WA -    Fire investigators appeared to have cracked several arson cases that dated back almost two years, but a bin fire over the weekend raises more questions.

Fire investigators say it's too early to say if this fire can be linked to the arsons that resulted in two arrests last week, but it's clear that local growers have become big targets for serial arsonists.

"Back in November, when we had two back to back bin fires, we tried to contact growers by phone just to give them a heads up," Dave Leitch, WV Fire Chief, "More specifically, to check bins because if they had fires that didn't take."

Leitch says they there have been seven arson caused bin fires in the Yakima area in the last nine months.

All told, these fires have caused nearly six million dollars in damages.
