Statewide Anti-Gang Bill Signed Into Law

Posted: Updated:

OLYMPIA, Wash.- Monday afternoon, Governor Gregoire signed a new statewide anti-gang bill into law. Gregoire says House Bill 2712 is another step to help communities crack down on growing street gang problems.

This new bill will create a statewide data base of known gang members, and also includes a legal definition of what a criminal street gang is, saying it's "A group of three or more people who commit crime and share a common name or identifying sign."

But it doesn't stop there, the new law will also help provide funds for graffiti removal and much tougher sentences for gang members who recruit juveniles into their gang.
