April 15th may be better known as tax day, but in the Northwest it's the day hydroplane race fans get to see some boats on the water again!

Two of the vintage hydroplanes will hit the waters on Lake Washington for testing between 11am and 2pm on April 15th.  You'll also have a chance to see a number of Unlimited Lights, G-Boats and Lighter than LIGHTS teams come out for spring training.

The event is a joint production of ULHRA, Seafair and the Hydroplane & Raceboat Museum

More than a thousand fans showed up last year for the spring training. Museum Director David Williams urges fans to get there a little early so they can find LEGAL parking spots.  People arriving late last year parked illegally and caused all sorts of problems for the event organizers.

Williams himself had to run around and try to get people to move cars last year.walk to the pits. "Please obey all parking signs," Williams urges on the Museum's website.

The two vintage hydroplanes will be the 1955 Miss Thriftway and the 1962 Miss Bardahl.

Among the Lights at spring training is expected to be the newly refurbished UL-929 from Jim & Karon Wilmot and Vince Xaudaro.  The team's been working diligently over the past months to get the hull ready to race.  "I think we'll make spring training," Wilmot said in an email last week.

It's only four weeks until the season opener for the Unlimited Lights.  Their earliest start ever.  Nine to twelve boats are expected to make the opener at Firebird in the Phoenix area.

It will also be a chance for fans to get a first hand look at the changes in the area around the Stan Sayers pits.  The changes - more gass in the parking area - have some people worried about space for the boats during Seafair.
