YAKIMA, Wash. -- At the age of 78, it's impressive that Bob Dolphin co-directs a marathon that regularly attracts 500 runners.
It's even more impressive that Bob still runs the Yakima River Canyon Marathon and about 20 other marathons a year.
Dolphin began running marathons at the age of 51. Saturday's race will be his 421st career marathon.
Dolphin and his wife, Lenore, who is also 78, are widely known as the world's oldest marathon organizers.
"I feel very fortunate. I try to rest and heal when I'm injured", says Bob Dolphin. "I run quite a few of these as training for the next marathon".
Bob has finished the Boston Marathon ten times and has participated in marathons in 33 different states. He says he plans on running in all 50 states.
The 8th Annual Yakima River Canyon Marathon is this Saturday, April 5th. About 500 runners will start in Ellensburg, run through the canyon on SR-821, and finish in Selah near the Sundown M Ranch.
