YAKIMA, Wash. -- Walgreens got the okay to build a second store, this time in downtown Yakima, and while some people are dreading sacrificing another historic downtown building for yet another chain store, others can't wait for the new location.
Right now the Walgreens on 40th and Summitview Avenue is the only 24-hour pharmacy in town.
That current location is convenient for those who live in the West Valley, but some are traveling over a half an hour to get to the pharmacy at Walgreens.
Customers say with busy schedules and longer shifts at work it's hard to get to the pharmacy during regular hours.
Elma Haffner is a frequent customer as Walgreens and she says the 24-hour pharmacy helps a lot.
"Its really convenient, because my grandma, for instance, she needs a lot of medication and there is no other pharmacy that's open 24-hours," said Haffner.
Some residents are sad to see the Sullivan building at 7th and Yakima Avenue go, but for the most part everyone we talked to says the Walgreens that will soon take its place is a good step for the downtown.
Residents will have to wait a little while for the new store, Sullivans Dry Cleaning is remaining open until May, and construction on the new Walgreens won't begin until October.
