Mariners Get No Relief from Bullpen, Fall to Orioles 3-2
BALTIMORE, Maryland - Luis Hernandez capped a three-run rally with a two-out RBI single in the ninth, lifting Baltimore past Seattle 3-2.
The Mariners wasted an outstanding pitching performance by Felix Hernandez, who threw eight shutout innings as a replacement for Erik Bedard and left with a 2-0 lead. But, operating without injured closer J.J. Putz, Seattle's bullpen, couldn't hold on.
Mark Lowe ended up taking the loss and is 0-and-1 on the year.
Dennis Saefate pitched a perfect ninth for the Orioles, who have won four straight. He's 1-and-0.
Hernandez was moved up a day in the Seattle rotation after Bedard, who was traded from Baltimore to Seattle in the offseason, was scratched due to inflammation of the left hip.
