Washington - Governor Christine Gregoire officially kicks off her re-election campaign today. The Governor will be both in Yakima and in the Tri-cities April 8th.
Today is the start of a four-day, 10-city tour around the state. Gregoire's kickoff tour will highlight issues on health care, education, job training, the environment, public safety and the business climate.
She will be at the enterprise for progress in the community event happening tomorrow at noon on 600 Superior Lane in Yakima. She'll then make her way down to the Tri-cities tomorrow as well. She'll be at the Clarion Hotel in Richland at 5:30 p.m.
Gregoire faces a rematch against Republican Dino Rossi. Both candidates say it's likely to be a tight race, although few expect a repeat of 2004, when Rossi won the first two tallies, only to lose by a mere 133 votes after a hand recount and a court challenge that dragged on for half a year.
The state hasn't elected a republican governor since John Spellman in 1980.
