ELLENSBURG, Wash. -- Central Washington University students put aside political beliefs to gather in support of the troops serving overseas.
The rally drew nearly 50 students. It began with an opening prayer for troops currently in active duty, followed by a recognition ceremony for those soldiers who have died while serving our country.
Representative Bill Hinkle also spoke tonight along with Vietnam War veterans from the local VFW.
The students who set-up tonight's rally say its important for them to hold events like this to remind fellow students of the sacrifice the troops are making for our country.
Sarah Ruiz is one of the College Republicans who helped organize the rally.
"Being over here and going to college we're almost out of the real world you could almost say and we don't acknowledge that there are people putting their lives on the line every single day to fight for a cause they believe in," said Ruiz.
The college republicans are also accepting donations of toiletries for care packages to send to local troops and the almost 20 CWU students who are currently serving overseas.
