BENTON COUNTY, Wash.--More than 250 children and teens have gone through a fire intervention academy since 2001. Only two have reoffended.
The program is a one day event, lasting four hours. Officials with the Benton County prosecutor's office, Kennewick and Richland fire departments, along with the Benton Franklin Juvenile Justice Center serve as educators.
They discuss the law and consequences for setting fires. They also try to instill good-decision making and fire prevention steps in the class.
