TOPPENISH, Wash. -- The Yakama Nation is speaking out today against the proposed Black Rock Reservoir. The Nation says they are concerned about the cost and they want other options to be considered.
Last week the Yakama Nation and the Rosa District said the plan is simply too expensive and in a joint letter to congress they asked that other plans be considered before they jump into the black rock plan.
They stood by that statement at today's press conference, but they were unable to offer up any possible alternatives to Black Rock.
"No we don't have one and that's a decision we would bring back to committees and tribal council to get direction on which to pursue," said Phillip Rigdon, Deputy Director of Natural Resources for the Nation.
The Bureau of Reclamation says they have looked at all the options out there and they believe Black Rock is the cheapest and most effective option.
The period to comment on black rock has ended and now the bureau will begin reviewing all the comments sent to them and Congress including the Nation's.
