KENNEWICK, Wash.- With temperatures warming up, parents are warned about summer pool safety.
Some local apartment complexes are making safety changes to keep up with recent code changes.
Codes used to call for seven inch gaps in fencing, but those gaps were so big young children could just crawl right through.
"It's nerve racking, especially when you have other young children with you, if the kid goes through the fence you can't go after them unless you have your key to unlock it or if you're small enough to fit though with them, I can't really jump over this fence," said concerned mother Marcelene Randall.
Those gaps are being closed to only 3.5 inches.
About 270 kids four and under drown in pools nationwide every year.
