Graffiti Alert in KennewickPosted: Updated:
KENNEWICK, Wash.-- More often homeowners in Kennewick are waking up to the sight of unwanted graffiti on their walls. Neighbors say they're frustrated.
"It's just real sad that kids these days don't have respect for other people's property," said Alisha Hernandez, who lives on Quincy Street in Kennewick.
"This is my home, this isn't right," said Ronald Hansen, whose house was tagged on the same block.
Kennewick police say some of this activity is gang related, but it's not always this way.
"Some of it's not, some of it is just kids tagging, whether or not they're affiliated with specific gangs is not always the case although most of the time is it," said Corporal Todd Dronen, with the Kennewick Police Department.
Hansen says he's lived here for more than 20 years and has never seen anything like this around his home.
"Never. I tried to get this stuff off with some acetone, but that's disgusting, they shouldn't be doing this to people," said Hansen.
These crimes can be done in a matter of minutes. Police say neighbors should always contact them at the first sight of any unusual behavior.
"We rely on the community to keep their eyes open, protect their homes by calling us when they see suspicious activity," said Dronen.
