SEATTLE, Wash - The Los Angeles Angels collected 16 hits today as they beat Seattle, 10-5, and avoided a sweep by the Mariners.
The Mariners, who won the first two games of the series, scratched starting pitcher Erik Bedard before the game because of inflammation in his right hip. The injury isn't expected to be serious.
In his place, right-hander Cha Seung Baek made his first start of the season. Baek took the loss, allowing seven hits and four runs in 4 1-3 innings with two walks and two strikeouts. Seattle reliever Eric O'Flaherty then gave up six runs on eight hits.
Jose Vidro, Jose Lopez and Raul Ibanez each had two hits to lead Seattle. Ibanez had a two-run double and three RBIs.
Jeff Mathis hit a two-run homer for the Angeles, and Joe Saunders got the win. He gave up two runs on six hits in 5 1-3 innings.
