YAKIMA, Wash. -- It was first reported that the Yakima Speedway was up for sale, but as hundreds of fans come out for the 42nd Annual Apple Cup we learn racing may still remain in Yakima, at least for a while.
The owner has admitted that operating the track gets a little harder every year, but that doesn't mean he's ready to sell.
The manager says the owner will consider selling if the price is right, but says the speedway is definitely not on the market.
"We do not have it on the market, but at some time or another yes it will probably happen, but we hope it doesn't happen for many many years," said track manager Ron Bennett.
Fans were glad to hear that.
Longtime race fan Irene Miller said, "I would hate to see it go. I am here every race, never miss one if I can help it."
Bennett did say whenever the track is sold it most likely won't remain a race track. He says the location of the track will make it difficult to keep racing in the area.
