League Admits Refs Made Mistake in loss to Spokane
KENNEWICK, Wash. - When the refs took away a Fever TD Sunday for a dead ball foul, Coach Cedric Walker told the refs they were making the wrong call. Monday he was proven correct. AF2 Supervisor of Officials Robert Vernatchi told Walker Monday that the penalty should not have cost the Fever the TD, but there would be no change to the final score. The final score still stands as Spokane winning 55-51. The play in question came at the end of the first half, LaRue Burley returned a INT 50 yds for a TD. However, Fever rookie Charles Bryant was called for a punch. There was also a punch by a Spokane player earlier in the play. At the time, the refs said the offsetting penalties negated the TD. The Fever are 0-2, at Boise Saturday.
