YAKIMA, Wash - A Yakima man and his son lose their home after a brush fire gets out of control. The house is located on 90th Avenue in Yakima.
Firefighters were working into the evening to make sure the fire was completely out. The fire started around 3:30 on Tuesday afternoon. Thick black smoke could be seen in the West Valley area.
Firefighters say a brush fire in a neighboring yard caught the house on fire. A teenage boy was home at the time with his friend. They were both able to get out of the house safely.
"It's all burnt up, all I have is what you see on me," said Kevin Maybee, the home owner with a grimace on his face.
"I can't help it (to smile), it's either that or sit down and cry," he said.
There is some good news to report. A dog was trapped in the house for close to an hour before firefighters were able to rescue her.
However, it is an emotional time for the family as the house is a complete loss.
