Jury Finds Shooting Death is Justified

Posted: Updated:

BENTON COUNTY, Wash.--Jurors made a decision Friday (4-18-08) about the shooting death of 27-year-old Michael Salazar.

Seven jurors unanimously decided that 25-year-old, Jon Gannon was justified in shooting and killing Michael Salazar while wounding his brother, Cory.

Cory also took the stand today. Friday afternoon when the verdict was read, Michael's mother was seen crying as she quickly left the courtroom.

Gannon's attorney says the family will not have any comment right now.

Meanwhile, Jon Gannon says he was put into a very tough position.

"I felt bad about what had happened, but I didn't really feel like I had a choice," admits Jon Gannon, man who pulled the trigger.

KNDU spoke with Benton County prosecutor, Andy Miller. Miller said considering the verdict of the jury, it's likely the prosecutors office will not pursue any charges against Jon Gannon, unless there's new substantial evidence.
