New Kennewick Police BuildingPosted: Updated:
The hospitality doesn't stop there. Inside this 45,000 square foot facility, everyone is invited. With a secure lobby and customer service area, you would think you were in a bank.
"We wanted that customer service feel so when people walked in the station, they'll feel welcome," mentions Captain Harris. They will feel like hey, this is their police department too."
Up on the second floor are Administrative offices along with men's and women's locker rooms which are equipped with tile flooring and spacious showers. Unlike the current station, these lockers are actually designed for law enforcement.
"It's got a separate locking compartment where you can put your gun," says Sergeant Brian Swartswalter. It's got plug-ins so you can keep your flashlight and radio charged, ready for duty, instead of having to carry them home each night and having to charge them up at home."
Before their 12-hour shift, officers can work out in their own Exercise room. Treadmills, Ellipticals and Flat-Panel Televisions come standard. But if police Detectives want to tune in to a missing persons case or other high profile incident, the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) has it all.
"This is all audio-visually (av) equipped, top of the line technology," exclaims Capt. Harris. It's going to be capable of conference calling, 10 computers already in here, separate phone lines already in here. An immediate response right out to dispatch, right out to e-o-c."
The new building also has a great view of what's left behind.
