KENNEWICK, Wash. -- Volunteers were rewarded for their golden hearts Thursday in Kennewick. KNDU met up with Kelly Artiga, who is the president of the Pasco High Key Club.
As president, Artiga organizes a number of community service events at the high school. She was one of seven people today awarded a Golden Heart Award. One of Artiga's nominators said she is the type of individual who they would want their kids to grow up to be. She says she's just glad she is able to help.
Artiga says, "It's a great feeling, just to know that I can help people. The fact that I can help people is amazing."
This is the first year the Benton-Franklin Volunteer Center has had the awards since 1995. They were brought back to celebrate the Center's 35th anniversary.

Outstanding Youth Volunteer: Kelly Artiga
Outstanding Volunteer Group: Citizens Helping in Police Services (CHIPS)
Outstanding Men Volunteers: Eugene Polk and Jerry McHenry
