Raising Funds for the UninsuredPosted: Updated:
PASCO, Wash. - Lourdes Foundation along with Lourdes Auxiliary, La Clinica and Columbia River Bank are teaming up to raise funds to help the uninsured.
Lourdes Foundation members say there are over 33,000 people without health insurance in Benton and Franklin Counties. This effort is trying to make a dent in that number by providing health coverage to one thousand people.
This basic health plan provides insurance for one person up to a year with a $50 dollar annual premium. The goal of this fundraiser, going on from April 28th to May 2nd, is to raise enough money to help individuals pay for that premium, making health insurance completely free.
The first donation was made by Columbia River Bank. Representatives tell us they've donated $2,500 dollars which would help cover the annual premium for 50 individuals.
More donations are needed. Donations can be made at Lourdes Medical Center in Pasco or any Columbia River Bank in the Tri-Cities. Just $4.17 would cover an individuals health insurance premium for a month.
So far the Lourdes foundation has 492 people signed up to benefit from this basic health insurance program, leaving over 500 slots open. To sign up, contact the Lourdes Foundation. A representative will sit down with you to see if you qualify. Qualifications depend on the level of income.
