KENNEWICK, Wash.-- Some local cub scouts are making sure the city of Kennewick stays earth friendly.
On Monday members of the Cub Scout Pack 148 planted three new trees near the Kennewick city swimming pool. In honor of Arbor Day the scouts joined forces with the Benton PUD and the city of Kennewick to plant the trees.
Arbor Day is celebrated on the last Friday in April every year.
"To make the environment look more beautiful, without trees we wouldn't have woods," said Dylan Nozell, a cub scout who planted a tree.
The PUD says several tall trees in this area were hitting the power lines, so they had to take them down. These new trees are called Wireless Zelkova and they only grow about 25 feet tall.
