New Radios for DOC

Posted: Updated:

YAKIMA, Wash. -- Yakima County's Department of Corrections is planning to spend almost $240,000 to purchase new radios for their corrections officers.

Department officials say their current radios are old and outdated. They are also using three different brands, which often prevents communication between the guards.

Officials say the upgrade is necessary to meet federal guidelines. The new system will also allow officers to talk with Sheriffs deputies during an emergency.
