Washington State Lawmakers Honor Walla Walla Deputy Killed In The Line Of Duty

WALLA WALLA, Wash. - A Walla Walla Deputy who died in the line of duty was honored Friday.

Deputy Michael Estes received the medal of honor.

Attorney General Rob McKenna and Governor Christine Gregoire honored Deputy Estes in this years Washington State Law Enforcement Medal of Honor ceremony in Olympia Friday afternoon.

The Walla Walla County Sheriff's Deputy was killed in an accident at the intersection of Highway 12 and State Route 124 in Burbank on February 6th 2007.

He was responding to a 9-1-1 call when his patrol car was broad sided by a truck.

Estes was born in Hermiston in 1963.  He was a decorated member of the Oregon National Guard.

He worked as a corrections officer at the state prison in 2003.
