YAKIMA, Wash. -- Truck drivers across the state say their biggest concern is a lack of safe parking at rest areas.
That is according to the results of a survey recently conducted by the Washington State Department of Transportation. They recognize that parking is a problem and they are trying to figure out how to improve it on I-90, I-5, and I-82.
Truckers are required by federal regulations to take a 10 hour break whenever they drive for 11 hours in a 14 hour time period.
Almost 500 truck drivers responded to the survey. 95 percent of them indicated that "overcrowding" is a major barrier to using designated truck parking.
