KENNEWICK, Wash.-- There is a new vaccination requirement for 5th grade students. Kids must now get a Varicella (chickenpox) vaccine, or prove they had chickenpox before, and Tdap.
Tdap is a new vaccine that protects against Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Whooping Cough. It is different than previously required vaccines DTap, TD, or DTP.
Students going into 6th grade must be vaccinated against Hepatitis B, DTap or DT plus TDap, Polio, MMR, and Varicella.
This week the Benton Franklin Health Department is having immunization clinics at Kennewick elementary schools. Both vaccines cost $20, $15 for one shot, or bring a copy of a current medical coupon. For a list of dates and locations, visit www.ksd.org.
