Yakima Police Honor Fallen OfficersPosted: Updated:
YAKIMA, Wash. -- Law enforcement agents from all over the valley came to the Yakima Police Department to pay tribute to fallen officers.
Yakima has never lost an officer in the line of duty, but they still wanted to stop and pay tribute to those who have.
"I think we all need to support the police and also support the ones who go out there every day and put their lives on the line for us so we can live in a safe community," said Dave Shrock.
That's what brought Shrock to this ceremony for the second time.
He says he feels he owes it to law enforcement to at least make this much time to pay tribute to them.
"We don't hesitate to call them when we're in trouble, but a lot of times we forget about them in our day to day things and knowing their out there and their safety's on the line," said Shrock.
In addition to local dignitaries and law enforcement the West Valley High School drama class helped in the ceremony by playing taps and singing the National Anthem.
Shrock said, "It's a very humbling feeling and it kind of gives you goose-bumps especially when they toll the bell and the honor guard was really exceptional."Today's memorial is a growing tradition at the Yakima Police Department and it's something they expect to carry on for many more years.
