YAKIMA, Wash. -- The Yakima Hardcore Runners Club hosted their First Annual Fitness For Kids Marathon Sunday morning. The marathon is aimed to help elementary students get more involved in physical fitness.
The students ran the first 25-miles of the marathon at home, with their parents keeping track of their progress.
The final 1.2-miles was ran today at the West Valley Community Park.
"It's a great event, we feel, to get kids fit, get kids active and living a healthy lifestyle," said Barry James, President of the Yakima Hardcore Runners Cub.
About 211 kids participated today. They were all from the West Valley School District. Next year they plan to open the marathon to students from all over the lower valley.
