PASCO, Wash.-- Tuesday the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) was at the Franklin County Courthouse to kick-off Nighttime Seat Belt Mobilization.
Local law enforcement officers are cracking down on people who don't wear their seat belts as part of a nation-wide campaign. Starting May 20 and ending June 1, there will be extra patrols on once the sun goes down.
The NHTSA is stressing the importance of always wearing your seatbelt. Deputy Administrator Jim Port says, "It only takes two seconds to buckle up and it really doesn't cost you anything but not using it could cost you everything, including your life or the life of a loved one."
In the first four months of this year, half of all drivers and passengers who were killed in traffic collisions were not wearing seat belts.
