TACOMA, Wash. (AP) - A Pierce County Superior Court judge has sentenced 29-year-old Anthony Casper Dias to 227 years in prison for three home-invasion attacks and the raping of 2 young women in 2 of the break-ins.
Judge Gary Steiner on Friday adopted the sentencing recommendation of 2 deputy prosecutors.
Nearly 40 witnesses, including the two rape victims, testified at Dias' trial. The young women each recalled in excruciating detail how a masked gunman broke into their homes and raped them repeatedly and brutally for more than an hour.
DNA evidence tied Dias to the crimes.
On the advice of his lawyer, Dias declined to make a statement on Friday. He is a married father of 2 children.
Dias still faces trial in King County on 19 charges, including rape and robbery, for a series of crimes there during the same time frame. Anything he said in court could have been used against him in that trial, tentatively scheduled to begin in August.
