Auto Repair Shops Feeling the Price of High Gas Prices
YAKIMA, Wash.- Gas prices hit above four dollars last week and auto repair shops are paying the price. Shop owners say people are putting more money into the gas pumps leaving them without money to put into their cars.
The business owner of Tidrick's Quality Transmission says he has seen a 40% drop in customers since two years ago. Instead of getting their cars fixed, people are putting them in park until gas prices lower.
Tidrick says they are now struggling to keep their business fueling, but it common among all the auto repair shops in Yakima.
Less business isn't the only way Tidrick's Quality Transmission is losing money. The cost of frate has doubled. Tidrick says he is feeling the pinch but he wont up prices more than he has to.
"We've had to increase some of our costs just to cover the cost increase we see in frate and everything else," said Brad Tidrick.
Although people aren't repairing their cars, Tidrick says it's cheaper to get your car fixed now than to buy a new car later.
