TOPPENISH, Wash. -- A Toppenish man is facing multiple charges after accidentally shooting his friend in the leg.

On Saturday night, Toppenish Police responded to a call about shots being fired on the east side of the city. They found a 31-year old man with shrapnel wounds in his right leg.

Police said a fight broke out at a party in the area and that is when Dario Alvarado, 25, fired three shots into the ground from a shotgun. One of the shots ricocheted and hit the victim.

He was treated at the scene and did not file charges against Alvarado.

However, police seized the shotgun and discovered it had been "sawed off". Alvarado is being charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and reckless endangerment.
