WHITE SWAN, Wash. -- Students, neighbors, and local businesses are teaming up to clean up White Swan on Friday.
Members of the Yakama Nation say their community is a target for illegal dumping because of its remote location. In the last year, they have removed 2,882 tons of old tires from the area.
The drop off site for Friday's clean up is at the corner of Birch Avenue and Curtis Avenue. The event runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Acceptable items to drop off include: household garbage, tires (two per household), washers, dryers, stoves, hot water tanks, car parts, and batteries.
Unacceptable items: asbestos, medical waste, computer parts, electronics, ammunition, hay, dead animals.
